HOW TO TRAVEL WELL ON A BUDGET

Fabulous holidays without breaking the bank

Happiness thrives when you spend your money on experiences instead of objects. Why? You may ask. Experiences give you a reason to wait in anticipation and memories to reminisce upon after the event. Furthermore, experiences are usually short and sharp, meaning you don’t have enough time to adapt to what’s happening and normalize it in your mind, which is what happens when you buy an object. That is one unusual travel fact you need to know before planning your next vacation.

REASONS TO TRAVEL OFTEN

If especially you are in your 20s, being young and on a budget shouldn't exclude great travel experiences. Traveling actually makes you more open-minded and who knows? You can also develop new hobbies.

When I was 18, it was the time I had my first real safari in my own country, Kenya. I had decided to take a one-week vacation to Masai Mara National Reserve with my best buddy, Jose. At the time we had to drive ourselves to the place which was hectic, with the rough terrain approaching the Reserve, and book an accommodation ourselves. Back then, we had no idea of tour operators in our own country, who provided such services exclusively for tourists like us, and we hustled our way to one of the top tourist attraction sites in Africa. Yet despite the changes, the adventure and thrills of good, old-fashioned vagabonding survive.

One of the most amazing changes over the past decade is the speed and ease with which you can get around. Ever wanted so badly to take a break from your everyday 9-5 job and enjoy yourself on a safari to Africa but felt that it was too much of a hustle? Well, you gotta thank technology. It isn't that much of a hustle now. Technology is revolutionizing budget travel on many levels, making it easy to plan a stress-free vacation in Africa and anywhere else in the world.

GETTING AROUND

If you had all the money, which place would you visit first? There are things you can strike off your bucket-list by visiting Masai Mara Game Reserve. Game Drive Safari, or Trip, if you will, is most certainly my best way of spending a vacation which I will also propose to you.

Planning for a safari is quite easy nowadays considering the quick process involved of booking online. Yes, you can book for a safari of your own preference and choice to Masai Mara from anywhere in the world! Okay, for those new to traveling you can check out reviews from other tourists at https://www.tripadvisor.com/. Since Masai Mara is located in Kenya you can actually search for companies offering tours there, book for a safari with the company, travel to Kenya, and become one with nature on a tour to Masai Mara.

SAVING ON ACCOMMODATIONS

Ah that would cost me a fortune! You might say, but on the other hand the services provided and the great experience you will have will just make you melt. Some companies provide budget safaris for those who are looking at a semi-luxury accommodation and within just a short time. Check out http://enchorowildlifecamp.com/ for such a plan.

On the brighter side you don't have to worry about booking for accommodations again after paying for the whole safari, and life is easier without a little baggage. Some companies like Africa Home Adventure Ltd have their own accommodations in the Game Reserve so if you book you are paying for the whole safari package including accommodation for your entire stay in Kenya which covers only your safari plan. Cool right? Check the company website at http://africahomeadventure.com/

There is a wide variety of wildlife inhabiting Masai Mara and other activities which makes the safari an enticing one. The entire big five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant), gazelles, hyenas, jackals and many many more species of animals and birds. You can view the animals from overhead on a hot-air balloon safari in the Reserve which is one of the amazing activities available (I especially loved this one).

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TRIP

It is important to make memories, because it is memories that make life more meaningful. One recent development in Masai Mara is the advent of nature walks and cultural tours to the Masai (Kenyan tribe) villages. In your list of things to carry a camera should top it, to capture the fun moments in your vacation and posses pictures of wildlife photography at its best.

One thing I always encourage travelers to do is to keep a journal (or these days, a blog). The world is actually not an intimidating place. When you travel around, especially in places where the culture is different from where you reside, you’ll realize that people are not only nice- most of them are extremely hospitable.

So, when you travel, make sure to stay with a local instead of a hotel to get the best experience of the place you are traveling to.

Love this? Check out http://africahomeadventure.com/ for safari offers. Cheers.
