Exquisite Three-Day Safari
From the onset of the safari, I knew the forthcoming experience would be delightful. My DSLR camera was already hanging on my neck, Brad was unsettled just asking when we would take off and Mercy was in the safari van wishing we were already there. Our Tour Guide, George (the best Guide I know) drove us to Samar Apartments in Westlands to pick up two other wanderlust tourists whom we would travel with, Elinka and Axel. After the pick-up we set off for Masai Mara which would be approximately a 5-6 hour drive, stopping shortly at the famous Rift Valley escarpment. There we had a brief session of photo shoots while enjoying the beauty of the escarpments. The curio shops that were situated there at our stop-over point had a myriad of souvenirs to choose from, ranging from masai shukas to hand-crafted artefacts.
Narok was the next town we stopped over from Nairobi. Since we would be in the wild for 3 days we needed to do some shopping of any personal effects as well as to get munchables. From Narok, we arrived at our accommodation in Masai Mara in no time, Enchoro Wildlife Camp. This camp is an ideal place for budget tourists who desire not to break the bank for safari accommodation. The staff were undoubtedly courteous, warm, competent and above all they gave us the best rooms available.
The accommodation part of a safari really is the determinant of whether a safari would be special, and in this case, it a hundred percent was. Our game drive experience on the first day was a brief one, from 4.30 pm to 6pm. However, the next day was quite captivating. Waking up with un unusual zeal to conquer the park, my squad and I left Enchoro Camp after our sumptuous, buffet-style breakfast. Everyone in the squad was looking forward to see the big five especially, but I had other interests, which was to enjoy every moment as it came. Masai Mara as I came to realize is quite vast and serene, and the beauty of it is endless. Being in there in the midst of the animals is a glorious opportunity that is incomparable to me with any other experience.
We had our picnic lunch in the middle of the WILD! This was unprecedented to me for I had not imagined that we could do this. What if a hungry lion came by? What if a giant elephant was cruising and he stumbled upon innocent humans having their lunch? He wouldn't care if we were on safari would he? I asked myself these questions as I sipped hurriedly on my juice looking out for predators every now and then. George noticed my anxiety and explained to us over our lunch that the place was quite safe, that it was okay to have picnic there with no worries. On hearing that my nerves calmed down.
On continuing our safari after the picnic lunch we managed to see the rarely-seen leopard which was asleep on a branch after feasting on a zebra that it had hauled up on the branch too. Thankfully we got many snapshots of this and we proceeded. Thanks to my DSLR camera and Elinka's iPhone 11 Pro, we managed to get very nice photos of the landscapes as well as animals in the park. When we headed back to our camp in the evening, we were more than satisfied with the safari. All that we did went straight to my travel journal as Brad was editing the photos and videos that we took. If you haven't started a travel journal yet, please do. It's easy and fascinating to keep one, plus your grandchildren would really appreciate your youthful escapades.
On the third day we woke up at 8am, had our breakfast and bid Masai Mara goodbye with nothing but sweet memories and fantastic tales to tell. TripNest Holidays organized our safari expertly, and we enjoyed it a lot. Check out their wide array of safari itineraries here www.tripnestholidays.com
