Why Everyone Should Travel
Just what are the benefits of traveling, anyway? Uhh, a whole lot! Getting around is good for your mind, body and soul because of some major reasons that I will tell you in a minute. Just hang on. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), their estimate has it that internationally there were just 25 million tourist arrivals in 1950. 70 years later this number has increased to 1.4 billion international arrivals per year. According to the vision of the World Economic Forum, tourism in 2020 will be a world in which smart visas facilitate travel for 2 billion global travelers. These travelers will enjoy all travel rewards, boosting global employment through new tourist jobs. Tourism "is today one of the most powerful engines of economic growth and development globally," said Zurab Pololikashvili, UNWTO secretary-general, quoted in the statement.
So, as the number of people traveling around the world increase, you should also be recorded in the statistics because of the following reasons:
1. To Open Your Mind
Traveling is ideal for enabling you to come away with another perspective of things, people, situations, and life in general. It is deeply embedded in our human nature to cling on to old idiosyncrasies that we may think at the time work for us, but traveling could open up your way of thought which you had never imagined could be possible. Putting yourself out there might sound intimidating at first. Conversely, an environment that you aren't used to might teach you a lot, giving you an expansive outlook in life as a whole.
2. New Experiences
Learning is a never-ending process and this is precisely what happens while we are out there in a peculiar place fishing for new experiences. There is a plethora of new things to learn when you travel to a new place. Locals might teach you their culture or traditions, they may invite you to try out their local food, and also teach you ancient history of their particular country. In Kenya, our Masai Tribe draws tourists from all over the world to experience their traditional practices and culture. It is a real pleasure to be a part of their circle while they demonstrate their traditional jump dance called 'the adumu'.
3. Making Memories
Making memories is one of the perpetrators for making people travel. A lot of people who have been saving up while at work can't wait to spend the big bucks on a fulfilling travel escapade. After an exhilarating travel episode, it is always a good idea to relive the moments through viewing journals and photo diaries. This is why we travelers go everywhere with a DSLR camera hanging around our necks that we spent a good amount of money on. If you don't have a travel journal yet, you could consider having one, your grandkids would really appreciate it. 4. Meet New People
Guess what lies just outside your comfort zone? Yes, you're right. New people. Traveling is perfect for meeting new people who could eventually be your lifelong friends, business partners, or lovers. If you are afraid of being a solo traveler because none of your friends want to come along on your travel escapade, don't fret. You could join a travel community where travelers from all over the world share travel-related information. There you can discover travelers who might be traveling to the same area you would like to go, and you could meet up. Even if you travel solo, you could still meet new people in the place you want to travel to that are solo travelers as well.
5. To appreciate the World
The world is a beautiful place which you will only get to realize and really appreciate once you have started traveling around. One of the most beautiful places to travel for a vacation is the Maldives, in South Asia. However, this is not the only beautiful place. There are numerous beauty spots all around the globe that you can feed your eyes on if you're as visual as I am.
Join me, then, on an adventurous journey to discover the beauty of this world, by being a traveler of the world.
